Have a Seat at 20mi2’s Colossal CommUNITY Table! We are setting a scene with seats for 500 guests and the public is invited to come together around a 400-foot community table during the first-ever city-wide celebration 20mi2 on June 9 and 10 at 7:00 p.m.
In collaboration with the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) UMass Dartmouth and the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, the 20mi2 cohort will set a scene at and surrounding a 400-foot table with seats for 500 guests. Live music and other performances will surround seated guests in unexpected ways from 7:00 to 9:00p.m.
The colossal table, made up of fifty 8-foot tables placed end-to-end, covered in white linens, with 250 seats on each side, is an interactive community experience. The public is invited to bring a picnic from home, or get takeout from any of the local establishments, and have a seat at the table at 7:00pm (first come, first seated).

TABLES-CAPING (DECORATING) CONTEST
To help set the scene, local professional artists and creative individuals are invited to take part in “setting” a section of this 400-foot table. Monetary prizes will be awarded for “Most New Bedford,” “Most Interactive,” “Most Creative,” and “Most Elaborate.” Interested individuals or collaborative groups must register by Wednesday, June 8. Guidelines are provided on the website. Award winners will be selected by public voting online via QR codes provided onsite.
This colossal commUNITY table concept will be transported to the Haskell Public Gardens on Friday, June 10 for a twilight garden setting, with a slightly different twist. The table-scaping will feature botanicals and entertainment will be provided by The Collective and Culture Park. Haskell Public Gardens will host food trucks at this location or guests can bring a picnic from home.
The CommUNITY table concept is made possible with financial and creative support from CVPA UMass Dartmouth, under the leadership of Lawrence Jenkens and Viera Levitt, and the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, under the leadership of Rosemary Gill, as well as 20mi2. Creative and organizational support is also provided by Diana Arvanites, a local multi-media artist, and Colleen Kennedy-Mello, 20mi2’s content creator and fellow creative spirit, and others.
